Olympic Flame and Torch Relay
The flame lit a few months before the Olympic Games not only evokes the memory of the ever-burning fire on the sacred hearth of the goddess Hestia, but also recalls the connection between the ancient Olympic Games and their modern counterpart.
The Olympic flame is transported from Greece to the host country by runners or walkers or by transport. The flame announces the Olympic Games and also conveys a message of peace and security to the people. When the runner enters the arena, he lights the cauldron with the help of a flame. From then on the game starts completely.
Since 1936, the flame has hosted the Olympic flame ceremony for the Summer Games, since 1964 it has also been used for the Winter Games.
